It is a rainy Sunday....a great time to get your homework finished! Take some time to just sit and BE. Read a book, even?
For this weeks reflection, please share with everyone your favorite quote or saying (if you don't have one, search the web til one catches you!) Tell us what it means to you and when you and how you remind yourself to use it.
Also, remember that we will be working on your career goals this week...and informational interviewing. So bring your Ed plan, your laptops and a great attitude.

ReplyDeleteA quote that I really like is " You gotta finish what you start." I like it because it was a quote that my boyfriend would always tell me and it would really motivate me when I felt like quitting. It also helps me to not procrastinate because when I start on my homework or essay, I focus on finishing it on the day I start.
DeleteSeek first his kingdom and his righeousness and all these things will be giving to you as well. Matthew ch.6-33.
DeleteThis is a quote in the bible that I've heard and read and it means so much to me. Because basically it means if you give up your clothes and riches and all the physical things of the world God will bless you but seek him first and stay in the truth. So I encourage everyone to stay in Christ and everything will be okay.

DeleteVery good.
DeleteA quote that I always have in mind is "A flower does not think of competing to the flower next to it, it just blooms" I really like it because now days everybody competes for being the best and there is a tendency to make others feel bad.In the past I have meet people who wanted to prove that they were better than me and thought that I would feel bad . However , those people are really closed minded and they are demostrating how insecure they are . Instead like the flower they should focus on growing without trying to be the first place, trying to make people feel bad, or to fulfill the expectation of some people who are not worth it. In addition, I feel that a lot of people focus so much on hating someone else because of their race, clothes , relationships, money and they get to the point were their mind and soul is full of hate and they attract negative energy which is really sad. As a result, the more hate you have the less happy you can be. So, many should focus to be like the beautiful flower they are growing to be and not focus on people that dislike you or hate you because their is always going to be someone that hates you no matter what, not only in school but in the professional field and you have to be able to ignore them and not let it affect you. I remind myself of this quote every time I get in a situation with somebody that doesn't like me and makes drama so instead of focussing all my energy in that person and getting upset.I focus on growth and ways to not let it affect me as well as always being the bigger person, and not lowering myself to argue or be mad all day because of something that is so small compared to all the love/happiness that I have in my life. Don't let one person ruin what you like or want because you are giving control up, plus you can laugh at them when they look so desperate for attention.Haters gonna hate no matter what.LOL
ReplyDeleteVery good advice.
Delete"Expect nothing. Appreciate everything"
ReplyDeleteHaving lived the majority of my life in disappointment, I've learned to fend for myself in almost everything. I've learned that you can't depend on anyone and to not ever expect things to go as you plan. So I apply this quote to everything in my life. Whether it's to meet up with someone to hang out or if it's waiting to hear back from a job. Take no shit. If you want to do something, do everything in your power to get it done. But for those who do come around, it's important to learn and value them.
Living in gratitude is a great way to live and not take the disappointments so heavily.
Delete"I learned that courage is not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear." -Nelson Mandela
ReplyDeleteThis quote always reminds me that it is okay for me to feel scared constantly, growing up I always saw fear as a weakness of mine, thanks to Mandela's words I feel that fear is my strength. I think of this often and it helps me get through simple day to day life events that make me uncomfortable and scared. its not easy to "conquer" my fears, sometimes I choose to walk away from opportunities because of it and then I remember the quote once its too late, but little by little I become a "brave man" by remembering the words of wisdom of Mandela soon enough and facing all types of fears.
I always tell myself feel the fear and do it anyway.
Deletedang 2 hours and i guess i was slacking ahahah i would have to say my favorite quote was my own "It's only awkward if you make it" It was developed in high school. I was talking to my little brother he asked "how are you so comfortable talking to girls" me: "idk i just do it" Tre: " i get that but its not that simple somehow it always gets like a little weird" me: "nahh bro its only awkward if you make it". It was as if there was something i truly believed for the first time. I dont care what position you are in you have to ability to change the atmosphere it is how we respond or act that influences the resulting outcome. I used this mentality in interviews, in conversations, in my everyday life. I hear it said its not what you know its who you know and that is true. do you know yourself? you have to be comfortable enough with your self to not make it awkward. Its funny every time i share my quote there is always someone who wont agree and that is totally fine with me everyone isnt as comfortable with them selves to experience the freedom that comes with this realization. Think about the people you are most comfortable around.. is it awkward? is it uncomfortable ? probably not. I remind my self everytime there is a opurtunity to volunteer or to grow. I use it everytime im speaking in front of people. I use it to make my self comfortable in uncomfortable situations because i will not let any one control my happiness.
ReplyDeleteYou got it! It is about learning to control our own emotional state. How we react to everything around us because we are only in charge of ourselves.

ReplyDeleteOne quote that I like is "life isn't about finding yourself. life is about creating yourself." Unknown author, I like this quote because it has a lot of meaning in it. it means to me copying others work, career, life style, etc is useless. Be your own self and do things that makes you unique and different from the others. Whenever there is an idea or a thought I always come up with different once. I always remind myself that making the same mistake is not going to help, so I always avoid making the same mistake. Also, our dreams led us to who we are and inspire us to be different. Choosing our own path is the way of creating ourselves.
ReplyDeleteYou are so right. In creating our life we are truly discovering ourself.
Delete“YESTERDAY is history, tomorrow is a mystery. TODAY is a gift of God, which is why we call it PRESENT.”
ReplyDeleteI knew this quote when I was watching the cartoon “Kungfu Panda 2” long time ago. This quote always reminds me to be content whatever God gave me. Time flies so fast, so I must not waste my time regretting something already happened.
Beautiful quote, one of my favorites.
Delete"Go the extra mile , it's never crowded" this quote means so much to me because it only motivates to do better in life. Usually everyone wants to succeed but until they see what it actually takes to succeed they won't do it. Therefore, I believe I will always go the extra mile where it's not crowded. I am very ambitious and this quote definitely describes who I am. And individual who craves success and will do what it takes to get there.
ReplyDeleteVery cool! When I walk into a crowded room I always walk to the front because there is always room in the front even when everyone is stand around in the back. Don't ever be afraid to do that extra mile.
Delete"FUCK IT" I like this quote because for me i over think a lot of things. So now i always live by that if i cant do anything i just say fuck it and move on.
ReplyDeleteWhat is your favorite quote when things go well?
Delete"Oh, yes. The past can hurt. But the way I see it you can either run from it or learn from it." I like this quote because it reminds me that we need to learn from our experience in order to grow as a person. We can't change the past because the past will always be in our memory, but we can do something about the future.
ReplyDeleteRemember there are no mistakes in life, only lessons. Hopefully we learn from them and don't continue to make them.
ReplyDelete"The flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare and beautiful of all"I love this quote not just because is from my favorite Disney movie ( LOL)
ReplyDeleteI like it because I believe that we must have to learn how shine at the night, when plans or espectations do not are what we want we must have to find a solution, learn from it and growth up no matter what we have to keep going and be the flower that blooms...
Build a Home, Live Forever
ReplyDeleteShmoh A. Lah :)
Our life is well with big house, financial, transportation, and etc…, but we have death in our home. We must build Him a home in our heart and allow Him to operate in to our life. The death can mean a great multitude way because in this world there are a lot of problem that are occurred and today we are also living in the last day of the world. It mean couples can not have a child because they do not listen to the Lord, but wishing to have child. Million of people that are working so hard to make money and to earn the happiness, but they never get it unless they meet Jesus in their life. Some richer people suicide their self every month and year because their heart is still empty; they tried to fill their empty heart by earn money, sex, drink, and gamble. That empty space in their heart is growing bigger and bigger because the darkness and evil come more in to their heart. Human like this it is hard to get out of the darkness, but the Lord is always waiting for them because He already paid the price two thousand years ago. We might think we can not get out of the darkness, but the truth is we have the power over the darkness and we can get out very easily. We are human and none of us are purely enough, but God said come to me son/daughter and I will give you rest. According to the bible (Matthew 11:28-30) “28 Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Roman 6:23), “23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” It does mean I am perfect; I am prefect and happy because of God grace. I would like to share the truth happiness that God give it to me because the world can never give it to us or we can never buy it with money. God is waiting for us to build a home for Him in our heart and live with Him forever. Million and million of people still love their old nature even though they know the truth that they have to leave their old nature and live in a new nature in order to obtain the happiness and joyful life. They still can not leave because it is not easy for them, but it cost a great tears. Our tears fall every daily because we only see the darkness, but we wish to see the light. We must leave our old nature which mean (sin that we love to do such as sex, drink, gamble, fight, and every things that are considerate with evil spirit) we much leave and form a new living purely, then the happiness will come along in our life. Human is not perfect but I want to share my gratitude life with you because of Grace. It start with my family builded a home for Him in our heart, in to our home, and the blessed just flow in to my family life. It was a bless life to have civil war in my country and lived in prison for ten years. I have to face a million of challenge even when I did not know how to walk on my feet yet. Life in refugee camp was not easy and I never though I can escape this prison in my life. I appreciated civil war and prison life because if I do not have this kind of problem I would not able to be in the U.S. today and earn my education. Every bit of my problem I use it as my strength to move on in a daily life. This quote come to me during the break when I went to camp meeting and God give me a lot of revelation to be gratitude about my life. I am still keep it in my heart and live in it every daily because It keep me to move on with strength when I know God is with me all the time.
My favorite quote would have to be "I can accept failure, everyone fails at something. But I can't accept not trying". -Michael Jordan this is my favorite quote not because I love basketball and a Michael Jordan fan, because the quote is true. Accepting failure is better than not even trying at all.I took math 96 in the summer and English 205 it was very hectic summer for me. math 96 is challenging course if math is not your favorite subject. My professor told if i do some extra credit i can pass the class but i refused and decided to fail the class. i was actually happy that i failed and retaked this course again because i learned a lot and understated all the material for math 96.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite quote is a Liberian quote that says, "What is meant for you, shall see your face." It basically implies that whatever that is yours will eventually come your way and when it comes it is going to stay. I am pretty fun of this quote because it relates to my religion which is Christianity. I believe in this quote because I know that what is meant to be will surly be and what is meant to stay will stay. This quote helps me to not regret a whole lot about things when they do not go right or to my expectations. I believe that if I lose anything or any opportunity, it was not meant to be mine. Therefore, I stress less when things go wrong.
ReplyDelete"Always be Humble and Gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love."
ReplyDeleteHi, Leslie :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite quote is "Never Give Up" this means much to me because always when I remember this quote do keep me going in my problems, and be better each day. Also to keep in my mind that I can do anything I put in my mind an I want to do. However this quote help me to keep my face up. Also this quote motivates in my entire life and be success and believe in me that I can di everything I want.
"Everything happens for a reason, whatever that reason may be, just keep moving forward." I always say this to myself because mostly everything has a purpose. Although we may not fully understand it at the moment, every experience we have is something we can learn from. Some are good and some are bad, but all we can really do is look toward the future because time does not stop for anyone. I use this everyday since every day is a new day there are new experiences that come my way and even if i do not know the answer to why it happened, there is no other choice but to move forward.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite quote is "You have to fight through some bad day to earn the best day of your life." I like this quote because every times in our life, we might have to go through a very difficult time and we might want to give up. However, we should not give up and being lazy. We should think positively and fight for what we want. At first, this may be really hard for us to try it, but if we try our best to go through it without giving up, we will earn the best day and happy forever in our life.
ReplyDeleteMy best-loved quote in my life is "The greatest pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do." This quote encourages me all the time when I have no hope and feel weakness in my life. When many people see me as victim and they don't think I can doing what I want to do. This quote speak to me and tell me that I am victor and hero. This is my favorite and encourage me all the time that how I get to this level. Thank you, God bless and love you all.
ReplyDelete"How people treat you is their karma; how you react is yours."-Dr.Wayne Dyer
ReplyDeleteThis quote is one of my recent favorites.I use to be a that person who would hold onto grudges for a really long time like REALLY long time. However, I've now learned that it's not worth holding onto hateful thoughts. Ever since I found this quote, during my senior year of high school, I feel like I always look back at it. This quote helps me a lot when I'm working with others and they aren't being the nicest person.
P.S. My favorite saying amongst friends is 'stay weird.' There's a whole story to it but I thought I should just add it as well.
"Expect a lot from yourself, don't expect from others." what this means to me is that,i stress a lot about what people say or do. for the fact that i expect some people to do certain things when i have done the same for them, but what i realized you cant expect people to respond like you because no is you but you. so, henceforth i don't really highly concern myself to other as much as i did. and i feel happier by the way.
ReplyDeleteI didn't really have a quote that I like. As I am looking for a quote i find one that closely related to me. "The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience."-Eleanor Roosevelt. I like quote because since I come to United States, my happiness is to overcome challenges and to gain more experience on anything that i want to do. I am also eager for success. I always remind myself that you don't know when you have no more strength to do the things you want, so just try as hard as to get what you can; please yourself with your capability.
ReplyDeleteA quote I really like is by a woman named Dorothy Parker from one of her poems. It reads:
ReplyDeleteIn youth, it was a way I had,
To do my best to please.
And change, with every passing lad
To suit his theories.
But now I know the things I know
And do the things I do,
And if you do not like me so,
To hell, my love, with you.
It stood out to me because in high school I was so concerned with what people thought of me. I always wanted to be the best at everything and be liked by everyone. I realized my senior year that I had spent so much time trying to please those around me that I was really unhappy with who I was. It was then that I started worrying about how I viewed myself and killed off the parts I didn't like. With that change came self respect, self empowerment, and independence. My solidarity brought to me friends of better quality rather than a mass quantity of "friends" that really weren't my friends at all. Now that I'm in college I have learned to love and respect those friends who truly care about my well being and to the ones that don't, "to hell, my love, with you". :)
My favorite quote is "so it goes," by Kurt Vonnegut from his novel Slaughter-House Five.
ReplyDeleteHe used the quote every time a very tragic event or a death happened. I find it very beautiful and motivating because time doesn't stop and it can either take you along or leave you behind. It always just goes and it's up to us to decide. This allows me to move forward through difficult times and reminds me that most problems in our life are far from terminal.
