Thank you for an amazing and inspiring class last week. The icebreaker (thank you Miguel) was so positive and it was truly a joy to watch the energy lift and grow as you each became connected with the other...and so on. It went from one hug, to three, to everyone hugging everyone, and it made my heart full.
And the stage for the dream book sharing was set...you were all sweet and lovely and open and there was a lot of good feelings to be had. So, THANK YOU!
We have a couple more blogs to do...as I am tabulating assignments it is becoming clear that many of you may not be earning an A. I sent out a couple of emails today regarding missing resumes and driver safety certificates. Want to be sure all of you get your formal certificate from Workforce Partnership so be sure you check your emails!!
For the blog:
Please share with us what the holiday season means for you. Do you have family traditions? (Please describe one or two that you enjoy, or even do NOT enjoy!) Is this a spiritual time of year for you?
Name THREE things you will do for self care over the 5 week break.
the place where I first kissed my husband!

I love the holiday season! Maybe because I was born during this time and its just in me but either way I love a lot about it. I love that during this time there's a lot of joy that's spread on a day to day basis. I feel like there's more people smiling during this time as well, and personally I love that! As for family traditions, my dad's family and my family all go to the Cuyamaca lake every Christmas day just to hang out. I remember doing this back when it actually use to snow and we'd make snowmen but now we just hang out. (No more snow BC global warming!)
ReplyDeleteOver the 5 week break I plan to give myself time for ME. I plan to remodel my room because that helps de-stress me and I'd like to put up a wall full of pictures with important memories of my life. I plan to exercise becasue I have not done that in a while and I NEED IT. Basically, I can't wait for the break because I haven't had this long of a break since like freshman year, where its an actual break.
Congrats Daniela on finally being first to do the blog.
ReplyDeleteHoliday season doesn't really mean anything to me. It's a time where we all get together as a family and just spend time with each other, dressed nicer than we usually do. We do have a tradition in which we go to church, meet up at our Aunt's house on Christians eve, have dinner together, party, then at midnight we hug each other wishing a Merry Christmas, and open and exchange gifts. What I don't enjoy about this time, is the emphasis which my mother has on celebrating "the birth of our lord and savior." I'm a Theist and haven't been religious for a while so having to go through this with a straight face and refrain from saying any comments as a matter of respect, is challenging. Another issue I have is regarding the rest of my family and the hypocritical and judgmental comments they make on my life choices and about my family. The one thing that I do kind of look forward to be able to finally see all my little cousins and nephew for once.
Over the break I plan on spoiling myself doing activities which I never get to enjoy. Such as binge watching anime, sleeping in, getting to do some artwork, hanging out and catching up with friends and celebrating some birthdays, among other things. I also plan to start to work out to prepare for when I start taking kickboxing. The main thing that I do plan on doing is road tripping up to San Francisco with my closest friend for a whole week before the next semester begins.
THANK YOU!
DeleteI'm not a huge fan of the holiday season because of how materialistic it's gotten. Either way I still like to relax and get caught up on rest. Then I get ahead for some of my classes for the upcoming semester. I plan on sleeping in and playing video games since I haven't since last winter break. I'll definitely start working out again. But I do miss my moms cookies she always makes around the holidays. Mainly I miss family things but I'll be going back in January. Three things I will be doing for my self I will be to focus on my relationship with God. I will be selfish when it comes to my mental health, and most of all I will pamper my fiancé.
ReplyDeleteWell for safe care I will be sure to not drink or smoke. Or get in the car with people who are under the influence. I will make sure I stay with a group of people at all times because I know how crazy things can get at this time of year. I will be respectful to everyone I see because you never know what people are going through. I will help the people in need so I can feel good.
ReplyDeleteAs far as holidays to be honest I don't really celebrate them my family does but I'm just not so excited about them. So I never expect anything and I always pray that people have a good day on those days. Since I don't celebrate it I do not have a good or bad story.
As far as spreading the holiday cheer I wish you all a Merry Christmas and happy holidays.
I love the Holiday Season!!!! Because its when I can go to visit my family and stay in harmony with everyone. I feel this time is when everyone can give love to each other. I can see more smiling faces around the word and specially in my family. This holiday season I thing its very important to me because its when I can relax myself for everything and take time to me to doing things that I really like to do, like going to visit my family and friends with more time and spend with them more days. And a traditional thing my family and me have is the most important thing is going to an orphanage and helping senior citizens and give them gifts and to demonstrate them they are important persons to us. Also my family and I do gift exchanges.
ReplyDeleteOver the five weeks break I plan to give time to myself, but time with my family that I don't see about one year. I can't wait for this break because I want to go to Sinaloa and see all my family.
For me I never know or feel about holiday until I came in to United State! When I was a child, I went to school and when summer coming I just helped my parent on farm. That was my holiday mean for me in 10 year ago. When I came here holiday meaning is totally different from then. Holiday is the time for families or people who live in city to spent their rarely time with the families and friends, because they have to work every single week for living. the reason I say that, because it totally different from the life in city and villages. that is general holiday mean for me. But the Christmas is different for me, because culturally, we celebrated Christmas every year in our village and still the same even we got in to city. I don't have family in here, but every year we celebrate in church some time in home. We bring foods from our home and eat together at church, then we play games and sing a song together. people can do different places and different styles. The most think like is I see families come together at the same place and have fun.
ReplyDeleteThe three things that i will do for self care are
. Get more my internship hours.
.Go out of state
.Celebrate Christmas with my aunt's family and church.
The holiday season to me means just being with family and seeing family members I haven't seen since last Christmas. What I like about Christmas is being able to be with my family, but it's kind of hard since my dad doesn't live with us.
ReplyDeleteThree things that I will do over the break are probably just hang out with my friends, go on walks with my mom, and relax. I will also try to get hours.
The holiday season for me means family. I work very hard throughout the semester and for the most part I only come home to sleep. I am no longer able to have dinner with my family like I used to and my weekends consist of homework and studying. For this reason my family emphasizes togetherness during the holidays. It is a time that we are able to simply coexist and we are all able to push our responsibilities aside for each other. We aren't too big on gifts, instead, we like to focus on doing something fun together. For example, this holiday season my family is taking a road trip up to Missouri to visit my stepdad's family. We will all be providing some money that would have been for presents into this in order to create an experience instead of receiving something material. We don't necessarily have any traditions since every year has been very different, but the key is that we all try to put our worries, problems, etc aside and have a nice time as a family since usually during dinner we tend to attack each other verbally.
ReplyDeleteThings I will do to take care of myself:
-Exercise regularly
-Maintain a good diet (especially around Christmas)
-Relax
To be honest, the holiday season isn't a significant part of the year for me . It doesn't mean anything special nothing to me because I don't celebrate any holidays. Christmas, New Year, Easter, July 4th, Halloween or even Thanksgiving. I grew up in a community which don't really celebrate holidays. but at the same times holidays make me happy because i spent time with my little ones and my relatives but actually not in a way of celebrating a "Holiday"
ReplyDeleteHoliday season!!! Is it this time of the year yet? LoL yaaaaay to me its means time for fun and actually a break from responsibilities, also spending time with my family will help me to be around those who i missed. Honestly, I don't do something special in this holiday, because I don't celebrate it, however, this year is going to be different, because me and my family planing for a little trip. For the 5 weeks break! UHHH .... I haven't decided yet about what i'm going to do, but i'm planing to take my driving test. also, i'm going to relax , enjoy, be save, let all the bad things of this year (2015) to pass and keep all the good and positive things. pray for better year (2016) and be ready for the next semester. :) MARRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL..... START COUNT DAWN FOR NEW BEGINNING.
ReplyDeleteThe holiday season for me means family and relaxation. In Vietnam, we also celebrated Christmas and New Year. However, in the U.S, the holidays are the most special days of the years, even my birthday. Because life in the U.S is super busy, it is not easy for my family have chance to gather together on the same days. We usually go to the Church, cook Vietnamese food and eat together at home. I am so happy for having my family here, but also miss my grandparents, relatives and friends in Vietnam. In every holiday each year, I always wish my family can come back to Vietnam together to spend this time with relatives.
ReplyDeleteIn 5 weeks of the break, I try my best to relax, exercise, practice dance for the children at Rosa Parks Elementary to prepare for the Lunar New Year, and also prepare for my classes in next semester.
I really don't give any importance to the holiday season. I see christmas and new years as just a another day. In regard to family traditions I normally just go to my grandma's house and stay there a couple days once school has ended. I enjoy this a lot because I'm able to talk with my grandma and be with her without having to worry about assignments.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I will do for self care in the next five weeks is sleep. I really need to catch up on my sleep. Secondly, I'm going to play soccer a lot. Being in school doesn't allow me to play as much as I would want. Lastly, I'm going to go to the bay in downtown to walk because I love doing that.
Christmas and New Years is a big thing in my family. We come together and make a lot of food. For my 5 weeks of break, I will relaxed, work out, read, and eat home cooked meals. Have a Happy "I am done with Finals" break!
ReplyDeleteTo me the this holiday season is very special. It is not only Christmas but right after I celebrate New Years. It is a spiritual time for me, as I gather with my family giving each other gifts. We take time to celebrate the real meaning behind Christmas, although it's not known as the exact date. It is the day chosen by the Catholic/Christian faith to celebrate the birth of Christ. One tradition I enjoy participating in is Posadas. Lots of family and friends gather in a home, which is a different one every night from the 16th until the 24th. We gather in prayer and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, passing out food and coffee to participants. I enjoy New Years because not only do I get turnt up lol , but before so, take time to reflect on all my experiencessay of the passing year. Remember my high and low times and reminisce over mistakes, good and bad experiences that I have learned from. I set future goals for myself and plan where I wanna be next year in terms of education, financial stability and my relationship with the love of my life which I have found thanks to God. For self care, 1st I'm gonna take time to relax and de-stress by sleeping more than enough lol. 2nd I will take time to do some exercise. 3rd I will make more hours from my internship site.
ReplyDeleteFor me personally I don't really look foward to the holidays, because my family tends to alway . go hard and celebrate and end up all drunk and they start fighting about who has more money or dumd things like that which results in family members stop talking to each other which is sad. Also , because my mom goes beyond everything and spends a lot of money on gifts which means long days in store which I don't like. I hope that by the end of the semester I cab relax and go to the spa to get a full body massage and go running in the afternoon with my friends. As well, spending time with my parent and sisters. Also, I am really excited because I might go to Disneyland, six flags and for new years big bear.plus wish me good luck because I planning on getting my permit and buying a car :) !!
ReplyDeleteThe holiday seasons that are most important to me and my family are Christmas and New Years. My family members are scattering all around United States but when these reason come, even though they are busy with there works, we are still all gathering up and sharing the family moment with each other. It is our family tradition because these holiday season keep us relatives closer to each other because we are not really see each other in a long time. In my family, we have the tradition of decoration stuffs around the house for Christmas and New year such as: for Christmas, we are hanging the Christmas light all round the house and the Christmas Tree. For New year, we are decorating the house with Ochna Tree and the traditional Vietnamese candies. Finally, three things that I will to take care of myself over the five week break are: (1) exercising, (2) planing stuffs ahead for next semester because I will do cross enrollment for Organic Chemistry at UCSD next semester, (3) spending times with my family and friends for relaxation and for recuperate the energy that I have lost through the first semester.
ReplyDeleteHoliday Season really means deeply inside of me and out because it bring family together, peace, and encourage. For example, When Sweet December night come all of my family and our church members are waiting for it with joying. We worship, pray, and say grace to God for his blessed over the years. Sweet December nigh mean every years when the first day of December will come our family, church members, and Karen people will wait for it at evening until midnight. As I stated above, when midnight come we start worship, pray, and say grace to God. After we eat and say wonderful words to each other and went to bed. While we waiting for Sweet December night we would watch Gospel Movie or Jesus stories. The Second Holiday that I enjoy the most is Christmas because we would give each other gift, paster would preach about Jesus stories, and family members will gather just like Sweet December night. Finally, the most amazing day that I mostly enjoy is new years day because we would waiting for it the same as Sweet December night and when the first day of the new year come, our Karen people would celebrate it by tell the history of our are people, perform our Karen tradition dance, and eat our culture food. This three holiday are always bring join to me and my family but it also bring to every one and it really mean deeply to me because I could say grace to God and live in another years.
ReplyDeleteThis holiday season mean to me is that I get to be together with my family and share the love. I haven't been home much since I start working. I am very excited for this holiday because I get to go one of the place that I always wanted to go. And I can put a check mark on the budget list. And the until the semester start I work!
ReplyDeleteI love the holidays because it's cold but the vibe at home is so warm. I love making tamales with my mom and my sister. Spending time with them just shows me how I only have them and a few friends at the end of the day. This semester I've had a lot of things happen and I'm just ready to move past this. My dad is feeling better so I know that we'll have a small get together at my house. I'm ready to sleep in and wake up to good HOME food ! I'm ready to clean and tune up my trumpet and guitar for Christmas. I love sitting in my living room watching my family sing and play music.
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to start a new semester and be done with these finals. I'm extremely grateful for being in Price and meeting many of you this year. God bless.
These last couple of years have not been the best for me throughout the holidays because it is not the same anymore. My family use to come together and we would spend the holidays either here in San Diego or in Arizona and I would love that soo much! Now its rare for us to even visit each other due to work, problems, ect. Because of this, the holidays are not a big part of me anymore.
ReplyDeleteThroughout the winter break I will be training for cross country season and will be a way for me to stay in shape. Also, I plan to eat as healthy as I can because it is important as a cross country runner. Another thing that I want to work on is sleeping earlier than usual, since I am always tired throughout the day. Besides running, I plan to spend the holidays with my family and just be with the people that have been with me all my life.
