I totally agree about what he said, and the fact that we should eat more vegetables rather than fruit is totally true to me. One reason is that fruit is a source of sugar, has a lot of MOG, and effect our health. I was surprised when he said that a grape juice is one glass of sugar. So all the time we weren't aware of that we actually drinking sugar and pretending its a healthy juice . :( As for me I would change my daily routine by doing more exercise like yoga , eat less fruit and more vegetables, and sleep for 30 minute every day after school or work at 3:00 pm to have some rest. :)
ReplyDeleteIt is true so many people drink soda and sugary drinks. In my personal experience, I use to love drinking soda when I was younger especially when it was the holidays or there were family parties. Before I use to be able to drink a whole big gulp of soda from 7-eleven, since it is so cheap I thought I was getting a deal. However, now I can't drink soda because I feel like its too thick and sugary and just does not feel right. I believe its been more than half a year since I stopped drinking soda and sugary drinks such as Snapple. Now I carry my own reusable water bottle because its shocking to me that soda can be cheaper than water. My nutritionist told me the same about fruit that although they are good they can also be "bad" for your health because of the sugar. I agree with him there seems to be no more real food like there was before and i continuously hear this from my grandma and parents. In my daily routine would I would change is MORE exercise! I think I have been good at changing my diet. (I have cut off chips, soda, juices, and fatty foods. Although I can say I haven't completely cut it off because there are occasions where I do eat fries and such.) Overall what I feel that I need to do the most is exercise more and do more relaxation exercises, including yoga and meditation.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree about his opinion. The video just help me more to understand that I need to change my regards of diet. I don't drink soda anymore since 5 months ago and I think I feel better, but I need stop eating fast food and est lore vegetables and do not eat a lot fruits because is true fruits can be good and savor but in many portions can affect the diet because have many sugar , also I need do a space on my schedule to do exercise, but I am no the kind of person who likes do exercise and don't have a plan or in paper the exercises and sets to do, but i will start stopping eat fast food. However, I need do more relaxing exercises I yoga will be great!.
ReplyDeleteIt was interesting to see this video. I knew the effects of sugar on the human body, but recently my intake of liquid sugar has be quite high as I substitute its short boost of energy for sleep. The toll it takes on our body is actually counter productive in the aspect that I use this sugar to obtain a small amount of energy. This is where things get interesting the physical affect of my body temporarily from sugar is a slight elevation in energy but overall i feel like crap. When i decrease the amount of sugars I drink to nothing and only drink water I feel more energized and alert. This video only compounds on my own conviction to eat and live right. I would have to say that if there is one thing i can start today it would be to make sure I drink less liquid sugar and increase the amount of water i intake daily. I am also going to start packing my food for school so that i can cut down on the about of fast food I buy. Its hard to eat healthy when all of your food comes from these varying forms of fast food. I also have to work on my sleeping schedule.
ReplyDeleteI wholeheartedly agree with the opinions expressed in this video. Also, though, it does not surprise me that such negative diets are prevalent due to our high obesity rate. It is very common for a person not to drink water in the whole day and instead substitute it with juice or soda. This video further solidified my belief in a healthy diet. I personally decided to lay off the sugary drinks after receiving training on the sweet teas when I worked at Mcdonald's. We were instructed to put two whole bags of sugar per tea brew cycle. The amount of sugar appalled me and led me to rethink my diet. Since then I have been exercising regularly, eating healthier, and drinking lots of water a day. What I do need to improve are my sleep habits. Due to my work schedule, studying schedule, and personal maintenance schedule, I have been unable to get to bed earlier than 12 am for the past month. This really takes a toll on me because by the time the weekend comes around I cannot fully enjoy it since I am too tired. I have worked on lessening my load and will hopefully be able to set a more stable sleeping pattern that will benefit my energy level and overall morale.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what he said about eating more vegetables because vegetables have the natural sugar. For me personally I can’t go a day with vegetables. When I don’t eat vegetables I can see the different how I feel like how much energy I have when I eat vegetables and when I don’t eat vegetables. So for me eating vegetables its became my habits. Everything he said on that video I have reactions to everything because most of the stuff he said its all knew to me. Where I came from they don’t educated us much about health. So I have to say I am blessed to live in America. However, I would change my daily routine to put more time in exercise more because I haven’t done that since I start college because I’ve been busy these past month but Start next week I am going for a night run and get to my track.

ReplyDeleteI found this video to retouch on many things I've seen or learned before, all presented in a manner that flows well and complements each part of his presentation. What he states is very true. As much as we may want to try to avoid unhealthy processed foods we have no other choice but to eat them because we've now reach a point where everything has some sort of sugar or fat added to it. In one form or another each food we eat has it including so called "fresh" fruits and vegetables. He mentions a lot of other points I saw in a documentary as well. The thing that he does not mention or at least doesn't go into depth about is the fact all these unhealthy food options are directly leading to the nations obesity epidemic. The chain reaction that happens when you put into play the saturated fats and sugar in almost every food leading to disease, all under the control of food companies. As much as we may want to eat "clean" it's nearly an impossible task, if you want to buy sugar-free products chances are they'll be loaded up with fats and vice versa. There's a lot at play when it comes to choosing healthy food options, thing is I'm a firm believer that it's no longer possible to eat completely "healthy" in this country. We're being run by big corporations and unhealthy diets means more money in medical expenses meaning more money in the 1%s pocket's. It's endless cycle.
ReplyDeleteI'm not completely sure if this is unbeatable.
fantastic. you can certainly make meaningful change in your own life...and i love how informed you are.
DeleteI definitely agree with all the things he said. Listening this video was very interesting yet very important I knew it from the beginning that too much sugar is not good for your health or anyone’s health. according to his theory of what I heard so far is avoid extreme sugar, eat butter not margarine, a low omega 6/3 ratio to decrease chronic inflammation, eat more eggs including egg yonks, eat whole food, olive oil is anti- inflammatory good oil. Also, I am willing to change in regards to my diet/exercise/sleep habit by doing the right things. for example Eating small, healthy meals frequently. Five small-serving snacks per day is better than three hearty meals. Eating more frequently, and in small servings, can prevent over-eating. This will also increase my metabolism and make calories burn faster. This is my number one goals. second, i plan to Drink water instead of sodas, juices, milky drinks. Hot water with a slice of lemon can be very refreshing in the morning also.
ReplyDeleteWell I am trying to change my eating habits and now that a withdraw my calc class I plan to have mor eme time by exercising and actually sleeping at least 5 hours everyday compared to how I used to go without sleep or just two hours which as prove me to be bad.As I watch the video I agree with a lot of the content and is reviewing stuff that I already know. What is funny is how he talks about how there was no big gulp soda and now there is, and how everybody was healthier years before compared to now. I like how he proves the credibility of his sources and how he starts talking about it comes back to the role of making healthier options and stop sweet liquids however he mentions how messed up our diet is which leads me to the corporations having so much power over us and as much as you want to eat free GMO organic evirmoment health is impossible. Is crzy how much money is run thgrough the coorporations and how most Americans are unaware that they are an experiemtn for coorporations. In other words, I agree with Kenia on how is an ongoing cycle that never seems to end because of the misconception of “health education”.
ReplyDeleteI agree with him. I recognized that my food’s recipe is sweeter than it used to be when I was in Vietnam. Although I knew what healthy foods are, I still eat fast food, chips and drink juices when I am at school. No matter what reasons are, it is time to change my eating habits. I like the fried meat with rice so much, but the lipid is unhealthy. Therefore, I try to eat it once a month, and substitute for vegetables, fruits, drink water, milk. I got stomachache, so I cannot drink coffee, spicy foods. Besides, I also have to do exercise every afternoon (it is hard for me to get up at 6AM^^). I should do meditation or yoga whenever I feel tired while studying.
ReplyDeleteI think he is making a good point about how the food we put in our bodies that are not very necessary. I can relate to when he mentioned, it is not necessary to include sugar in our tea, oats and whatever because it is not healthy. I think these changes were influenced by our generation because all the healthy things are being replaced in the stores with the bad things. For example, when you walk in the 99cent store, all the bad things are offered very cheap. Basically, no one would want to buy something with a small quantity when they can get it for a bigger quantity for the same price.
ReplyDeleteSecondly, I think the whole process food has to do with the country's economy and statuses'. Most people in America are extremely busy that it results to women who should be able to make their kids healthy food do not have the time to make those food for them. As a result of no time, women tend to give their kids fast food or suggest they get food on campus or somewhere like McDonalds.
Therefore, changing diets involve a lot of considerations.
I am totally agreed with all he says, all of he say is true. Sometimes people prefer soda, juice, etc., than water, they think the all sugar that sweet liquids no affect their health and don’t see all calories it has. In my personal experience, I use to like drinking soda, juice , any liquid more than water, for example if I passed for a store and I don’t have water , I prefer buy soda that water. And sometimes I am hungry and passed for a store and I buy chips, cookies, but never have I bought a fruit or another thing healthier to me. I am able to do more exercise, I love do exercise, but in group , with friends that motives me a lot and help me to stay healthier. I need put more care in myself and worry all I eat, what thing I need and what things I want.
ReplyDeleteI changed my diet a few years back by drinking water with all my meals. I walk about 2 miles per day and try to eat 3 healthy meals per day. It is hard to eat healthy with school and work, but waking up a little bit earlier to make lunch rather than buying fast food, plus you save so much money. It is incredible how orange juice has the same amount of soda. Something that I would change is the type of meat, fruit, vegetable, and food I buy. I am going to start buying organic foods.
ReplyDeletewell, personally, I was born where is poor place in forest, so I actually, didn't get sugar as much as I want. but when i grew up there were many produces came in to my village and country. Like Andrew Weil, M.D. said, "people didn't not understanding the difference between fruit and fruit juice." That is how people start to eat sweet, soda, coks and other unhelthy produces from other country so many people got diabetes. And I agree with this movie because now our country don't care to much about those food. it seem like they addicted.
ReplyDeleteIt's ridiculously shocking how unaware people can be about the consumption of sugar ! These intakes are horrible for us. I agree with all this because for example when we drink juice we believe it's healthy right? No . I was once told that if you drink to much juice it's just as bad as soda, and just like eating to many fruits is bad too. And this man just assured me again how just a glass of it its pure sugar. To change this for myself I will definitely start looking at what I am drinking and eating first of all and secondly I will change my exercise habits. At least 30 minutes a day. I just need to build a better foundation with myself because if I don't take care of myself. The no one else will it all starts with me. My initiative.
ReplyDeleteI 100% agree with him especially when he talks about the sugar and how certain types of sugar is suppose to give us this automatic energy. I use to be really unhealthy because I had an addiction for sugar I would put it on everything. And instead of being energized and ready to go I crashed immediately after I ate it. Even with the energy drinks we have now they are so unhealthy but people use them to stay up but there crashes too. This is Why there has to be a balance if statistics show in the the last 160 years a dramatic Increase of sugar and obesity then there has to be a change. No more fast food more home cooked meals and working out choosing a better life style so you can live a healthy and energized life. That's what I got from this amazing video. 🌍💪👌
ReplyDeleteI appreciate how Dr. Weil touches up on the subjects of insulin resistance and excessive inflammation while presenting his view on the American diet. As an obese, it is hard for me to listen to people talk about health when all they mention is weight. He mentioned things i was unaware of, such as the reality of high fructose in fruits and the effect of chemical compounds from oils oxidizing in the body. I agree with his views on sweet liquids but i still find myself falling into the "sugar free" tricks, or the prepared available on-the-go. He mentions the Mediterranean diet being one of the best diet options to follow and i believe that one of the changes i can incorporate into a new healthy lifestyle could be learning more about Mediterranean food and its preparation. Also i think i could change my lifestyle by staying active with stretching and cardio.
ReplyDeleteEverything he talks about I agree with 100%. What caught me shock and awe first was the graph showing the spike of sugar for the past 100 years. It's crazy how sugar became the main focus of the food in America, also how people had to had more than half as much as the amount that they already use just to taste good to Americans. People neglect all the sugar we eat with just beverages alone. Added upon the extra calories of food makes it deadly and it's causes a lot is sicknesses nation wide. And by the fact he said eating an orange is equivalent to the sugars to a soda, that really made me feel bad a it eating so many oranges. I thought personally that they were good for you but I didn't know they had all those sugars. These facts are something's that a lot of people don't know and I will most definitely change the way I eat and the way I look at "healthy" food.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first entered U.S. I was notice that American eating a lot of sugar, margarine, and soybean oil and I did not think they are eating the wrong food. I though they were eating a healthy food but during I watch the video I am surprise sugar and margarine cause people to have obesity, and soybean oil increase cancer rick. I realized thought this video it is true because of many people have obesity because we can see all over the street when we walk by and when we enter hospital many people are need to be see doctor in order to be healthy and lose their weight. This reveal though my mind that I my self doing the same things eating unhealthy food every day during lunch and I also notice many people doesn't choice healthy food because it is more expensive. By December I think I will change my habit of eating less unhealthy food such as sugar, margarine, and processed food. I know Mexican food are very temptation because it taste so good, but I believe I can over come this temptation to stay healthy. I encourage every one to do the same things to stay healthy..!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Michael Greger is that processed meat is not healthy for obvious reasons, but for fresh high quality animal products the story could be different. In fact, many studies are observational ones, again, correlation doesn't equal to causation. In addition, the sugar is mostly accompanied by fat in the products (foods) consumed reflected. We all know that obesity isn't caused by eating sugar from abundance of whole fruits. However, sugar is somewhat good for us because it give us energy to do work everyday. If there is no supply of sugar in to your body; your productivity will be reduced.
ReplyDeleteI remember I had a presentation about nutrition in my communication studies class in the summer and my classmate surprised, most if not all, about a study some scientist did. The experiment was tested on mice to see if sugar was more addicting than cocaine. To our surprise, six out of the eight mice preferred the sugar water rather than the cocaine water. It is the same issue about how our brains are more addicted to sugar than anything else. This is not the first time I have seen this video, and every time I have seen it, I always agree with Dr. Weil because it is very accurate. The United states became the most obese country in the world due to our diets. It is just eye opening to see how much our calorie intake has increased as well as how much sugar we consume. I love running so I have to be healthy, drink a lot of water, and get enough rest. I try to regulate the amount of sugars I intake and actually know what I am putting in my body. It has always been very important to me to eat as healthy as I can because I would not want to go down the road with a medical condition due to my eating habits.
ReplyDeleteIt does not surprise me that obesity has gone up in America. I think we are in such an industrialized and capitalistic society that we don't give each other enough time to take care of our basic body need such as eating healthy meals, in appropriate portions, at healthy times. We turn to fast food and take in thousands of calories at one sitting. Along with that comes the soda and sweet liquids. A large explanation could also be that sodas and sweet drinks are sometimes cheaper than water. We go for the cheapest and most convenient option and stop at a McDonald's where we can get a ridiculously large drink for $1.08. I have made the effort to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner along with good portions. I know I need to choose better snacks because I get sugary food or drinks during the time that I'm at school if I haven't ate. I will continue to work on my eating habits and stay active during the day.
